STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish prosecutor said on Friday he will charge three former employees at telecom operator Telia Company, including its former Chief Executive Lars Nyberg, as he prosecutes a long-standing case of suspected bribery in Uzbekistan. The firm said on Thursday it had agreed to pay $965 million to settle U.S. and European criminal and civil charges that the Swedish phone company paid bribes to win business in Uzbekistan. Telia was named Telia Sonera at the time of the alleged corruption. (Reporting by Helena Soderpalm and Olof Swahnberg; editing by Johannes Hellstrom)

Thursday's Sports in Brief (Yahoo Sports)

Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez had a severe case of the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy, researchers said, and his lawyer announced a lawsuit against the NFL and the team, accusing them of hiding the true dangers of the sport. Dr. Ann McKee, the director of the CTE Center at Boston University, said Hernandez had Stage 3 (out of 4) of the disease, which can cause violent mood swings, depression and other cognitive disorders . ''We're told it was the most severe case they had ever seen for someone of Aaron's age,'' attorney Jose Baez said.

Camp time! Warriors, Wolves prepare to open training camp (Yahoo Sports)

The Golden State Warriors were the last team standing when the NBA season closed in June. Thanks to a preseason trip to China, they are one of the first teams to get going this season as the league gets up and rolling again. The Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves will hold their media days on Friday and open training camps Saturday, a few days ahead of the rest of the league as they prepare for an early October trip to China for games in Shanghai and Shenzhen as part of the league's ongoing efforts to grow the game in the basketball-crazy nation.

The man who hired him just got fired, and his team has dropped six of nine and is coming off a loss to an opponent from the Mid-American Conference. Pressure on coach Mike Riley has intensified in the wake of athletic director Shawn Eichorst's dismissal. The 64-year-old Riley said he's relying on his decades of experience in dealing with the highs and lows of coaching to help get him and his players through this rough patch as the Cornhuskers open Big Ten play at home against Rutgers on Saturday.

Texas Tech looks to build on offensive success at Houston (Yahoo Sports)

Texas Tech has the nation's top offense, and it's trying to keep it that way as the schedule gets tougher. With Oklahoma State looming in the conference opener Sept. 30, Texas Tech faces a possible trap game when it plays at Houston (2-0) on Saturday. ''They're just trying to get better every day, they're not looking past anybody and that's what having a tough nonconference schedule will do for you,'' Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said.

Last year's Michigan State-Notre Dame game had all the trappings of a huge early matchup. Both teams were ranked, the game came down the wire and the victorious Spartans moved into the top 10 in the AP Top 25. Then Michigan State didn't win another game for nearly two months.

Evaluating Allen: Wyoming QB a strange study for NFL scouts (Yahoo Sports)

FILE - In this Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, file photo, Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen (17) runs onto the field before an NCAA college football game against Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Allen had a long day against Iowa and it got even worse against Oregon. The Wyoming quarterback's two big chances to show off his prodigious talents were pretty much a flop, but make no mistake: Allen is still one of the most talented college quarterbacks in the country and a potential high draft pick. (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall, File)

The stands of War Memorial Stadium are mostly empty as Josh Allen makes his way toward midfield, ball in hand. Wyoming's game against Oregon is still about 90 minutes away, but the show is about to start. Representatives from 16 NFL teams are gathered on the sideline to see one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in the country, and he doesn't disappoint.
